Macro and trend strategies seek to capture persistent moves and changing conditions across global markets rather than relying on the long-term direction of a single asset class. Funds in this category may trade equities, rates, currencies and commodities through systematic trend-following, managed-futures or broader macro frameworks. Return drivers can include directional trends, shifts in monetary policy, cross-market dispersion and changes in volatility. Some approaches are highly rules-based, while others combine systematic signals with discretionary portfolio construction. Position sizing, trading speed, market coverage, use of derivatives and risk controls can therefore differ materially between funds, creating meaningfully different behaviour even where the headline strategy appears similar.
